**Duties**:
**As a Public Affairs Specialist you will**:

- Assist in organizing and coordinating news media interviews and logistics for speaking engagements for the Chair and other Commission staff.
- Draft and edit briefings, informational materials, talking points, and other communication materials for internal and external use across divers e audiences.
- Stay current on emerging communication trends and technologies to recommend innovative approaches, communication strategies, or publications to reach target audiences.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, groups interested in or affected by agency programs or policies and other internal and external contacts.

- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- A 1-year probationary period may be required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.

- May be required to obtain and use a government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
- May be required to file a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.

**Qualifications**:

- You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

- A. You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

- Assisting in writing and developing articles, news releases, and social media posts;
- Drafting reports, talking points, briefing packets and power point presentations;
- Assisting others in the use of social media, radio, television, newspapers, fact sheets, and/or the internet within an organization; and
- Researching organizational programs, activities and/or functions for the preparation of communications to general audiences of directives and the design, documentation and implementation of various reporting systems.

OR
- B. Have a Master's or equivalent degree in any field of study that demonstrated the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Public Affairs Specialist.
- OR
- C. Have two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree, LL. B, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position.
- OR
- D. Have a combination of education and experience. Please note that only graduate education in excess of the first full year is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience/education requirement at the GS-09 grade level.
- The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.**Education**:
