Reporting to the Director of Orientation and Family Engagement, the Assistant Director is a member of the Student Engagement team in the Office of the Dean of Students. The Assistant will work closely with the larger Student Engagement team, stakeholders such as the First-Year Experience Office, Office of Undergraduate Education, Disability Access Office, College Title IX, Harvard University Dining Services, Harvard Alumni Association, and Admissions/ Financial Aid to support the implementation of Pre-Orientation and First Year New Student Orientation program at the College. The position requires strict confidentiality, as well as strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. **Position Description**

**Program Development and Management** - Oversight of the Pre-Orientation registration process; provide support and logistics for the Pre-Orientation Director group; Oversight for Pre-Orientation Leader Training which will include training related to Title IX education, implicit bias education, conflict negotiation, intellectual vitality, and other skills necessary for a student leader. The Assistant Director for Pre-Orientation Programs will also assist each pre-orientation program in the recruitment of both student leaders and participants. This role will also assist with the development and facilitation of the Visitas Information Session, Pre-Orientation Participant Move-In Days and Post Pre-Orientation celebrations and reunions.

**Operations and Logistics** - Serve as the emergency and on-call point person during Pre-Orientation leader training and throughout the programs. Work with campus partners to coordinate housing, building access, meal plans, room reservations, AV needs, transportation, and any other programmatic efforts for Pre-Orientation participants, leaders and Directors. This role will also conduct regular status check-ins with each Pre-Orientation program during the actual week of Pre-Orientation.

**Communications and Outreach** - Manage Pre-Orientation websites, review, and approve content for outward facing publications, webpages, and communications to accurately and positively reflect the individual programs and the Pre-Orientation program as a whole.

**Support** - This role supports and assists with ongoing efforts related to the area of New Student Orientation and Family Engagement, including but not limited to New Student Orientation and Family Weekend.

**Supervision and advisement** - Supervision of the Graduate Assistant for Orientation and Family Engagement; Pre-Orientation Student Advisory Committee, a committee of undergraduate student leaders who plan and execute Pre-Orientation Programs; FOP basecamp and FAP resident artist contract and training processes.

**Budget/Finance** - Support program directors in the management of Pre-Orientation budgets, set program fees, distribute financial aid, and oversee all expenses and fundraising efforts. Manage and oversee Pre-Orientation general budget and assist with approval of all expenditures, reimbursements, and support Directors in making purchases.

**Assessment**:

- Ensure thorough assessment is conducted after programs for both participants and student leaders detailing major successes and outlining recommendations for the future.

**Basic Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Minimum two to three years of relevant work experience.

**Additional Qualifications and Skills**
- Experience in higher education, particularly in orientation and transition programs.
- Working knowledge of Canvas or other content management platforms.
- Collaborative style and sophistication in working with partners across multiple organizations to create the conditions for a high-quality student experience.
- Skilled at interacting with a diversity of external constituents (parents, alumni, donors, and so on) who express interest and have a stake in the work of the office.
- Appreciation for and creativity in adapting traditions of Harvard College to changing times.
- Adept oral and written communicator, skilled at presenting materials to broad audiences.
- Competence managing finances and planning for program development.
- This position does require some late night/ weekend work.
