**Minimum Qualifications**:
A high school diploma and two years of post high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.

Vocational training or an Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction from an accredited school or college may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience working with biological specimens

Experience identifying marine invertebrate fauna

One or more years of graduate education in biology, zoology, or related fields

**Requirements**:
Typical office hours are 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. Work duties are generally onsite; eligible for telework very occasionally.

**Position Overview and Responsibilities**:
Report to and assist Collection Manager in curation and maintenance of biodiversity research collection. Assist with tours of the collection, workshops, Marine Quest, and other outreach events that require interacting and presenting scientific information to the public, FWC staff, and other stakeholders. Assist with preparing, shipping, and receiving loans. Monitor supply stocks (Specimen containers, shipping supplies, ethanol, etc.) and make recommendations to replenish inventory. Assist with species identification of marine invertebrates using updated taxonomy. Manage the shelving and storage of specimens, including: arranging specimens to maximize available shelf space; retrieving and re-shelving specimens as requested; replacing evaporated preservative as needed. Make corrections and updates to the collection database. Print and stuff labels for newly-cataloged items and updated specimens. Assist with specimen digitization efforts including photography and data entry in collections database software. Assist with collections-improvement projects as requested including collecting trips in the field, backlog species ID efforts, and database tasks. Assist with training volunteers and interns in species identification, specimen curation and maintenance, and other tasks as assigned. Perform other tasks and duties as requested.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
Competence with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.

General familiarity with marine invertebrates of the Gulf of Mexico with a deeper interest and knowledge in a particular group.

Ability and willingness to present on that group, train others, and otherwise communicate your knowledge to colleagues and the public both orally and in writing.

Ability to use taxonomic keys for species identification in various marine invertebrate groups.

Ability to work independently, stay on-task with or without direct supervision, and identify and propose collection improvement projects.

Experience working safely with flammable materials such as ethanol.

Ability to climb stepladders and step-stools while handling up to 3 gallons of liquid.

Ability to act on changing priorities and responsibilities

Ability to organize and file documents
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
