**SUPERVISING CORRECTIONAL COUNSELOR**
- THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $_80,808.00 _ANNUALLY._

**About the Position**:
Under direction, Supervising Correctional Counselors provide first-line supervision over subordinate Correctional Counselors conducting counseling in County detention facilities. Incumbents will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing correctional programs such as County Parole, Incarcerated Person Classification, Work Release, Incarcerated Person Education, Legal Research Services and other education/vocation, religious or psychosocial programs. This class is found only in the Sheriff's Department, Detentions Services Bureau.

- **Education and Experience**:
Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. Qualifying education/experience:

- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U. S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in counseling, psychology, sociology, criminal justice/administration, or other behavioral or social science field; AND;
- One (1) year as a Correctional Counselor in the San Diego County's Sheriff's Department or equivalent.

**Note**:Experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

**Working Conditions**:
Work primarily takes place in locked County detention facilities with restricted access. Work involves frequent travel to locations within and outside of the County. Work involves frequent exposure to computer screens. Work involves constant contact with incarcerated persons who may be potentially upset, hostile, violent, and abusive. Work may involve exposure with incarcerated persons who have communicable or contagious diseases, in which case, the incumbent will be required to wear filters, respirators, or other protective equipment.
