School of Visual Arts and Design:
- The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) is a diverse unit at the University of Central Florida, housed in the College of Arts and Humanities. The various tracks, degrees, and opportunities facilitate experimental and groundbreaking research while offering students the essential foundations necessary to be innovative and effective designers and artists.
- SVAD serves students majoring in animation, architecture, art history, photography, graphic design, and studio arts including painting, drawing, printmaking sculpture, and ceramics. SVAD’s alumni include Fulbright scholars, resident artists, art historians, and curators and are employed by Pixar, Electronic Arts, Scholastic, Universal Creative, and others. Our diverse faculty has an array of specializations and are current on the latest industry standards, software and practices because they remain current in their respective disciplines and can offer students real-world insight into their future careers.
- The Opportunity:
- The Lab Coordinator II is a Full-time staff position that provides various hands-on assistance related to the operation and monitoring of fabrication laboratory facilities in SVAD; including Woodshop, sculpture, metalworks, ceramics, 3D design, and other areas as assigned. Works alongside the SVAD Machine Shop Manager to supervise the woodshop; maintain, clean, and repair tools and equipment. Provide one-on-one or small group instructional support to students using specialized equipment and other hand tools, power equipment, and materials in the labs. Assist students through facets of fabrication, craftsmanship, and problem solving.
- This position is eligible for overtime.
- Responsibilities:
- Assist students through facets of fabrication, craftsmanship and problem solving.-
- Assist faculty in open lab hours during normal operating hours.-
- Ensures University's fire, tool, and material safety standards are communicated and met in all SVAD classrooms, studios, and shops.-
- Safety Training, Upkeep, and Protocol Enforcement is specific to area studios and labs for students, faculty, and staff.-
- Implements inventory control system for SVAD to make sure necessary classroom materials are available for students at all times for SVAD Woodshop and throughout these fabrication spaces.-
- Responsible for surplus submissions and tracking, and will serve as property custodian.-
- Recommends measures to improve woodshop and fabrication procedures.-
- Submit work orders to UCF Facilities as needed for higher level repairs and projects.-
- Maintain organized storerooms and labs; assemble custom shelves, racks, and tool caddies needed for classrooms, art display and storage.-
- Assist hanging and moving art for SVAD community events including Gallery openings, Art Knight and UCF Celebrates the Arts.-
- Operate in a flexible schedule to allow students to complete their work on time.-
- This position will involve occasional night or weekend hours.- Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an education setting such as a High School or College.-
- Experience working a woodshop or fabrication lab.-
- Experience in a Ceramics studio, mixing clays, running gas and electric kilns.-
- Experience with sculpture, mold making, metal works, etc.-
