**POSITION**:Elementary Assistant Principal

**REPORTS TO**:Building Principal

**JOB SUMMARY**:
Provides instructional leadership to staff including curriculum, review and implementation and professional development. Responsible and assist with day-to-day building administration and the safety and welfare of both students, staff and activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere, provides disciple as necessary and enforces school policy.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)**:

- Valid Indiana Administrators License
- Successful experience in elementary education
- Experience in Title I program/school
- Experience in Special Education program/school
- Experience in Urban educational environment

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**1. **Serves as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal

**2. **Administers a program of student discipline and interacts with students to encourage positive performance

**3. **Assists with staff evaluations

**4. **Manages building staff including class schedules and building problems

**5. **Supervises staff attendance and assignment of substitute teachers

**6. **Assists scheduling special events during the school day

**7. **Assists with coordinating the development of the maser teaching schedule

**8. **Provides general supervision to students; supervisors extracurricular activities

**9. **Maintains relationship with parents and community

**10. **Serves as an instructional leader in the building

**11. **Assists principal in overseeing all school improvement initiatives

**DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Experience in building management and support services
- Work in culturally/diverse educational environment
- Knowledge of instructional systems technologies
- Experience in supervision/evaluation of school personnel
- Experience in a full service school
- Knowledge of current education/research based school and student initiatives
- Performs other related duties, as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties

**Working Conditions and Physical Environment**

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students/parents and neighborhoods considered to have high levels of violence potential.
