**SierTeK Ltd. is seeking a Biomedical Research Laboratory Manager to support an opportunity at **the University of Maryland Medical Center (Dr. R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center).**

**POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION**

**Essential Job Functions**

**Laboratory Operations Management**:

- Coordinate and manage day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Implement new programs, tests, methods, and instrumentation.
- Manage lab personnel daily duties, including training and performance management.
- Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Schedule and assign employees based on lab operational needs.

**Research Project Coordination**:

- Oversee the planning, initiation, and execution of research projects.
- Monitor progress and ensure adherence to timelines.
- Collaborate with principal investigators and other stakeholders.
- Maintains medical laboratory productivity by monitoring the workload of functional areas.

**Budget Management**:

- Develop and manage the laboratory budget.
- Allocate resources efficiently and seek cost-saving opportunities.

**Quality Control and Assurance**:

- Achieves quality results by participating in the hospital quality assurance program.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures for experiments and data collection.
- Ensure compliance with good laboratory practices (GLP) and other relevant standards.
- Adheres to specimen preparation procedures.

**Equipment Maintenance**:

- Establishes quality standards to maintain medical laboratory equipment performance.
- Coordinate the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and arrange for repairs or replacements as needed.

**Data Management**:

- Implement data management systems and protocols.
- Identifies informational needs to manage medical laboratory information systems.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with privacy regulations.

**Collaboration and Communication**:

- Facilitate communication among laboratory members and with external collaborators.
- Foster a culture of open communication and collaboration.

**Grant and Proposal Support**:

- Track and manage grant funds and expenditures.

**Professional Development**:

- Stay informed about advancements in the field and emerging technologies.
- Support the professional development of laboratory staff.
- Complies with state and professional continuing education licensure requirements.

**Environmental Health and Safety**:

- Promote and enforce adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
- Coordinate with environmental health and safety officers to ensure compliance.

**Documentation and Reporting**:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of laboratory activities.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management or funding agencies.

**Qualifications**:
**Mandatory Qualifications**: The Biomedical Research Laboratory Manager is a pivotal role that requires a combination of scientific expertise, leadership skills, and organizational abilities to ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the laboratory.
- Possess a minimum master's degree in a STEM field with a minimum three (3) years' demonstrated experience in research/translational lab.
- Possess at least one (1) year demonstrated experience with large animal research models (swine).
- Possess demonstrated expertise with ordering, procuring, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Possess minimum one (1) year demonstrated experience developing and executing research protocols.
- Possess demonstrated experience following industry standards and safety regulations for handling samples.
- Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business inquiries, including technical RFQ/RFP.
- Possess the ability to work with veterinary staff to set up and prepare experiments.
- Possess demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to track and manage inventory.
- Demonstrate the following work characteristics: ability to work independently; attention to detail; extensive organizational skills; initiative, ability, and drive to solve practical problems; excellent multitasking skills; ability to professionally interact with all levels of personnel.
