Cooking Camp Director

The J.W. Hayden Recreation Centre, Inc., a private non-profit youth recreation facility in Lexington, MA, is looking for an enthusiastic and creative summer Cooking Camp Director.

Reports to: Recreation Facility Director

Job responsibilities are:

- Activity director & instructor of assigned weekly cooking camp groups.
- We are offering 6 one-week cooking camp sessions. Two weeks each for grades 2&3, grades 4&5 and grades 6-8.
- Activity curriculum design and implementation. This will include both cooking activities as well as
- Food/equipment/supply ordering and care.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen space.
- Work with the Recreation Facility Director to evaluate programs, address program needs and address unique camper needs or behaviors.
- Supervise and guide counseling staff and CIT volunteers assigned to assist you each week.
- Understanding food allergies and food intolerances and the ability to adapt recipes and plans to meet the needs and safety standards for all participants.

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

- Degree or proven experience in your area/medium of instruction - culinary arts/cooking.
- Experience working with children of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Classroom and/or group management experience.
- Ability to communicate with others - campers, parents, and staff - in a courteous, patient, and respectful manner.
- Flexible and effective problem-solving skills.

Other: First Aid & CPR certification required - certification training is provided.

Hours/Schedule:
We are offering 6 one-week cooking camps between the dates of July 8 - August 6. Looking for either one director to lead all 6 weeks or two directors to split the 6 weeks of camp.

Cooking Camp Director hours for the six weeks of camp are Monday thru Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm (Camp day for the campers is 9:00am-3:30pm).

Additional orientation and training hours and First Aid/CPR certification hours (if needed) will be required in June.

The Hayden Centre was established over 60 years ago in an effort "to establish a place of meeting of the youth of Lexington for their moral, mental and social improvement and development and in general to do all things which may promote directly or indirectly their intellectual, social and physical welfare.”
