**Job Summary**:
The Scheduler position requires the utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per the provider’s orders. The Scheduler must schedule image orders based on medical procedures consistent with the patient’s diagnosis and procedure request. The Scheduler will also be responsible for performing the necessary financial clearance processes, i.e., eligibility, verification, pre-certification and pre-service collections to secure the series to be provided. The Scheduler must be able to respond to both written and oral correspondence regarding scheduling changes/cancellations in a timely, accurate manner.

**Responsibilities**:

- Welcome patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person; answering and referring inquiries
- Comforts patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties; and answering patients’ questions
- Schedule image orders based on medical procedures, for patients with appropriate provider and time/location slot, utilizing the appropriate scheduling code.
- Obtains and inputs accurate registration data, such as patient demographics, insurance information, and clinical data.
- Interfaces with appropriate clinic staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care serves
- Performs insurance eligibility and verification as well as pre-service collections for scheduled and unscheduled services.
- Enters notes/special instructions needed for scheduling in the electronic medical record.
- Effectively utilizes clinical knowledge when determining if appointment is consistent with the diagnosis/indications indicated by the provider.
- Completes accurate documentation of informed consent with patients for procedures as needed.
- Provides accurate, detailed information to patients regarding test preparations, time of patients scheduled arrival, and any other directional information needed; takes appropriate action in responding to questions from patients.
- Confirms patient’s insurance provider and either obtains prior authorization or communicates need for prior authorization to appropriate parties as needed.
- Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed.
- Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients via telephone.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that organizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Utilizes courteous and professional telephone techniques and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain rapport with patients, physicians/office staff and hospital personnel. Assists other members of the department as needed.
- Answers call in a timely fashion: Main Phone Line
- Distribute faxes to appropriate team member(s)
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- May travel to other CLS clinics as needed.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum of a High School Diploma
- Minimum of 2 years experience in healthcare scheduling, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 2 years experience contacting insurance providers and verifying insurance.
- Familiarity with managed care contract requirements as they pertain to pre-cert and authorization processes.
- Medical terminology experience and applicability
- Must demonstrate consistent professional conduct and meticulous attention to detail.
- Must be organized, and be able to manage demanding workload with accuracy.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Critical thinking skills and a positive attitude are essential.
