**Job description**

The Assistant Principal of Kindergarten to Grade 4 shall be designated by the Executive Director of the School to have the general responsibility, on a full-time basis, for the proper supervision of students in K-4 and for the safe, efficient operation of the building, under the supervision of the K-2 and 3-5 grade Associate Principals.

**SPECIFIC DUTIES: ADMINISTRATION, SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM**
- Support curriculum design and scheduling with the Associate Principal, Coordinators, and the teaching staff to supervise curriculum instructional techniques.
- Evaluate assigned staff, together with Associate Principal and Coordinators.
- Participate in and provide for an exchange of ideas through Academic Leadership meetings, Grade Level Meetings and individual conferences to support teacher Professional Practice and Student Learning Goals
- Employ an efficient system for pupil and program appraisal and make recommendations for changes needed so that all programs can meet the needs of all students.
- Work closely with the SPED Director or Asst SPED Director to ensure all Individual Educational Plans (IEP) are compliant.
- Consult with Leadership Team and other resource personnel, for educational planning of student activities by helping coordinate building operations.
- Provide leadership and initiative for organizational improvements.
- Ensure implementation and support for the assessment cycle and participate in any data analysis sessions to make suggestions for improvement.
- Assist the Leadership Team in developing the School Improvement Plan to meet district goals for the school.
- Assist the Associate Principal and the Subject Coordinators in developing and monitoring the curriculum alignment, in accordance with the State Frameworks and MCAS Test results.
- Demonstrate evidence of monitoring classroom implementation of the curriculum with the proper strategies and techniques to positively impact student performance

**PERSONNEL AND STUDENT PROGRESS**:

- Support the social, academic and emotional well-being of all students.
- Participate in conferences with teachers, counselors, teaching specialists and others.
- Monitor student attendance and work with families and community agencies to reduce chronic absenteeism
- Coordinate with MA Courts, Department of Children and Families, Lowell Police Department when issues of safety, abuse or neglect occur
- Analyze attendance and discipline data on a bi-weekly basis to identify patterns and restorative solutions
- Consult with School Psychologist and BCBA to identify effective behavior supports
- Participate in Student Support Team meetings to progress monitor and implement MTSS-tiered interventions for students with academic, attendance, behavior, or social-emotional concerns
- Lead investigations into all allegations of student discipline and bullying, and comply with federal and state reporting procedures
- Work to implement alternative remedies to suspension by utilizing restorative practices and other solutions
- Confer with parents in a professional, supportive, and timely manner

**G**ENERAL ADMINISTRATION**:

- Supervise plans to determine, develop and implement the students' master schedule with related teacher programs and duties.
- Assist the Associate Principal in planning staff meetings
- Participate in system-wide committees, as required.
- Assist with fire drills and emergency evacuation plans of the facility.
- Participate in the selection, placement, evaluation and of teachers
- Plan and supervise the use of building space and make recommendations to the Leadership Team
- Counsel building staff as required and assist the Leadership Team with the Induction / Mentoring Program.
- Prepare letters, written reports and make oral presentations regarding administrative activities.
