**This position is a 12-month engagement and may be based in either Emeryville, CA (SF Bay Area) or Minneapolis, MN**

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
- Provide advice and knowledge as a SME to develop and grow a comprehensive program to advance the safety, security, sustainability, and social responsibilities (4S) of bioindustrial manufacturing.
- Engage in external facing 4S activities with BioMADE members, academic institutions, and government entities.
- Prepare reports and associated documents for BioMADE leadership, committees, and DoD, to inform and advise on 4S strategy and best practices.
- Assist in defining and maintaining BioMADE 4S guidance & standards by interacting with individuals, members, and teams across BioMADE to ensure a consistent 4S approach to every program endeavor.
- Support 4S Program and Project Managers and Specialists by providing expert knowledge and advice.
- Assist in the preparation and review of 4S Agency Directed Proposals in accordance with BioMADE’s internal timeline and submission guidelines. As the SME, review and evaluate proposals created by other team members.
- Participate in the 4S portion of Institute Project Calls. Provide SME level input and advice for the RFP process, including gathering topics from committees and subcommittees and the review and scoring of white papers and full proposals.
- Review and provide recommendations for final technical/progress reports and post-award impact reports to identify project achievements to be shared publicly.
- Participate in the 4S Committee and Subcommittee meetings, as appropriate.
- Partner with the 4S Committee and subcommittees to revise the annual 4S committee document.
- Collaborate with the BioMADE Communications Team on publications, presentations, research findings, and broader impacts resulting from projects such that they are being appropriately shared with BioMADE membership and external stakeholders, in accordance with BioMADE confidentiality provisions.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Preferred work experience related to safety, security, sustainability, and social responsibility in a science related industry or manufacturing including, but not limited to, areas such as science communication, science and technology innovation research, survey and qualitative research design, economics, broad societal impacts, regulatory sciences, supply chain resilience, sustainability, green technologies, public engagement, risk perception, public opinion formation and public perception of science and technology.
- Prior experience in working as an advisor or mentor in the 4S arena.
- Prior experience with grant preparation and obtaining funding, especially for non-profit entities is a plus.
- Training or experience in the social dimensions of biotechnology including, but not limited to the bioeconomy, bioethics, biosecurity, or the ELSI (ethical, legal, social implications) framework.
- Training or experience managing federal government programs, in the civil service, military, or as contractor, is a plus.
- Broad experience working in, or with, the following technical areas: biotechnology and engineering, bioprocess development and optimization, molecular and synthetic biology, metabolic engineering and strain construction, fermentation, biopolymers and biomaterials, modeling of cell metabolism, bioprocess simulations, data analysis, statistics, a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to bring together academia, business, and government entities to build partnerships in a productive and efficient manner.
- Excellent verbal, written and public speaking communication skills.
- Must possess strong working knowledge of MS Office and business tools such as Salesforce.
- Ability to commit to a 12-month Fellow engagement.
