This position is a 12-month engagement and may be based in either Emeryville, CA (SF Bay Area) or Minneapolis, MN

 

The Safety, Security, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility (4S) Fellow is responsible for acting as the lead subject matter expert (SME) and advisor for all BioMADE’s 4S activities. The 4S Fellow will inform on best practices, key areas, and gaps in the 4S field.  The successful candidate will engage externally to promote BioMADE’s 4S work and remain current with the state-of-the-art for the advancement of the ecosystem.  A description of 4S work to date can be found at: www.4Sbio.org.The 4S Fellow will work with and support the 4S Committee and Subcommittees made up of BioMADE members, U.S. Government representatives, and leading 4S experts. This position will be responsible for advising on project calls that address the social dimensions of bioindustrial manufacturing, and on the selection of projects for funding.  This position will report to the Head of Programs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Provide advice and knowledge as a SME to develop and grow a comprehensive program to advance the safety, security, sustainability, and social responsibilities (4S) of bioindustrial manufacturing. Engage in external facing 4S activities with BioMADE members, academic institutions, and government entities. Prepare reports and associated documents for BioMADE leadership, committees, and DoD, to inform and advise on 4S strategy and best practices. Assist in defining and maintaining BioMADE 4S guidance & standards by interacting with individuals, members, and teams across BioMADE to ensure a consistent 4S approach to every program endeavor. Support 4S Program and Project Managers and Specialists by providing expert knowledge and advice. Assist in the preparation and review of 4S Agency Directed Proposals in accordance with BioMADE’s internal timeline and submission guidelines. As the SME, review and evaluate proposals created by other team members. Participate in the 4S portion of Institute Project Calls. Provide SME level input and advice for the RFP process, including gathering topics from committees and subcommittees and the review and scoring of white papers and full proposals. Review and provide recommendations for final technical/progress reports and post-award impact reports to identify project achievements to be shared publicly. Participate in the 4S Committee and Subcommittee meetings, as appropriate. Partner with the 4S Committee and subcommittees to revise the annual 4S committee document. Collaborate with the BioMADE Communications Team on publications, presentations, research findings, and broader impacts resulting from projects such that they are being appropriately shared with BioMADE membership and external stakeholders, in accordance with BioMADE confidentiality provisions.
