**_DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS_**
Safely and efficiently operates equipment and power tools to perform a series of skilled/manual activities and tasks and/or to transport materials, personnel, and supplies to complete work assignments.

**Operate Heavy Equipment such as (Dump Trucks, Concrete Mixer Truck, Boom Truck, Herb. Spray Truck, Lowboy, Slope Mower, Bulldozer, Excavator Backhoe, Flatbed, Gradall, Sweeper, and Bucket Truck) **to transport equipment and/ or materials to and from work sites. Operates power tools, uses hand tools and performs a variety of skilled/manual tasks and activities, i.e. spraying, landscape, moving furniture, infrastructure repairs, mowing, pouring concrete or asphalt, fabricating and installing traffic signs, etc.
Maintains, cleans, and services equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities.
Inspects vehicles for required supplies, materials, and equipment.
Observe and follow safety procedures and precautions at the worksite.
May investigate and respond to complaints.
Prepares and maintains reports, forms, and records of assignments, service calls and/or maintenance and repairs of equipment and tools utilizing a data tracking system.
May act as a lead on a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel.

**_WORKING CONDITIONS_**
This position routinely requires stooping, bending, and/or lifting of items of 30 - 80 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

**_This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level._**

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
**_EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS_**
Requires a High School Diploma, GED, or the ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions at a level necessary for successful job performance supplemented by specialized courses or training in the operation of the construction equipment.

**_EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS_**
Six (6) months of experience performing manual and field work with power tools or equipment are required.

**_LICENSE REQUIREMENTS_**
Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License and compliance with the City of Houston’s policy on driving. May be required to have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) based on the type of equipment the position is assigned to operate.

**PREFERENCES**:

- **Preference will be given to applicants with a High School Diploma or GED.**:
