Associate Teacher- Infant/toddler/twos

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant/Associate Teacher is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents. The Assistant-Associate Teacher observes and documents children’s interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. Assistant/Associate Teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Lead Teacher.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Responsible for the implementation of Chapter 1 (Child Development Facilities: Licensing) Subtitle A (Office of the State Superintendent of Education) of Title 5 (Education) of the DCMR (District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.
- Responsible for the implementation of the Early Head Start Performance Standards
- Responsible for the implementation of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation Standards.
- Responsible for implementation of the standards defined by the ITERS (Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale).
- Responsible for the implementation of all policies and procedures of Jubilee JumpStart.

TEACHER CHILD INTERACTIONS
- Primary Teacher for 1-3 children in a classroom of 8 total children.
- Interact with children frequently showing affection, interest, and respect.
- Sit at the child’s level and speak to children at eye level.
- Be responsive and available to children.
- Include children in conversations: describe actions, experiences, and events: listen and respond to children’s comments and suggestions.
- Encourage pro-social behaviors in children such as cooperating, helping, taking turns, talking to solve problems. Teachers will do this by modeling desired behaviors; identifying, describing, and offering strategies to develop pro-social behaviors; and by offering opportunities for exploring and valuing similarities and differences.

CURRICULUM
- Assist the Lead Teacher in the implementation of The Creative Curriculum, with fidelity and according to Jubilee JumpStart policies and procedures.
- Assist in the planning and execution of age & developmentally appropriate activities to promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Complete weekly individual lesson plans for 1-3 primary children based on observation and assessment data.
- Assist in the completion of weekly group lesson plans.
- Assist the Lead Teacher with the implementation of the daily program.
- Support a developmentally appropriate schedule that provides both consistency and flexibility
- Promote dual language learning by ensuring the inclusion of English and Spanish in the classroom.

OBSERVATION & ASSESSMENT
- Assist the Lead Teacher in monitoring and assessing child progress utilizing Teaching Strategies GOLD.
- Maintain an online portfolio for each primary child in My Teaching Strategies.
- Observe and record anecdotal notes for each primary child daily in My Teaching Strategies.
- For each primary child, assess child’s skills, interests, and needs formally and informally and use this information to inform planning.
- Collaborate with LT and TA to complete quarterly GOLD Checkpoints.
- In collaboration with each primary child’s family, complete the Ages and Stages Developmental Screening (ASQ) in the first 45 days of enrollment.
- Identify and report any concerns regarding a child’s progress to the Lead Teacher.
- Assist as needed in the referral process for children suspected of delays or disabilities.
- Collaborate with outside agencies in the provision of services to enrolled children (Strong Start, Early Stages, Health Futures, etc.)

PARENT ENGAGEMENT
- Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining an atmosphere that promotes family engagement.
- Build and sustain relationships with families by being open and available to them and responding to their questions, concerns, and needs.
- Engage in frequent communications with families, verbally and in writing.
- Provide opportunities for parents to participate and engage in the classroom.
- Inform and facilitate parent’s understanding of child’s progress toward developmental objectives and seek family input in developing individual lesson plans.
- Conduct 2 home visits per year with each family.
- Conduct 2 conferences per year with each family.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, SAFETY, AND NUTRITION
- Assist the Lead Teacher in designing and maintaining a well-organized, developmentally appropriate, safe, and healthy classroom environment that supports the growth and development of children.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Maintain proper supervision and monitoring of children at all times.
- Support the maintenance of the classroom and facility by completing daily health and safety checklists and reporting safety hazards and maintenance needs immediately.
