The EPPIcenter at UCSF is looking for a talented and inspirational lead bioinformatician with a strong malaria background to lead a bioinformatics service team. Drawing on your own strong malaria bioinformatics background, you will work collaboratively to respond to researchers’ data analysis needs, ranging from a supportive role with trainees, to developing new tools for the malaria community. You will work within a Scrum framework to manage incoming tasks from various stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include prioritizing tasks, assigning work to team members, and forecasting capacity to meet project objectives effectively. You will provide technical support and guidance to service team members, cultivating a supportive work environment, fostering their professional development and identifying training needs. Collaboration and communication are essential aspects of this role, as you'll facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange not only within the bioinformatics team but also with other researchers across the unit. Active engagement with stakeholders will be vital as you communicate project progress, outcomes, and potential implications.For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

The EPPIcenter (eppicenter.ucsf.edu) aims to advance the understanding of infectious diseases to reduce global morbidity and mortality. We believe that the greatest success in the fight against infectious diseases will come through a highly interdisciplinary, systems epidemiology approach, connecting traditionally siloed theoretical work, technology development, generation and collection of empiric data, and analysis using statistical and mathematical modeling.

The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. With its home-base located at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), the Division has been ranked as the top facility in the country for AIDS care since 1983. The Division’s work is featured frequently in the media, and it is often visited by numerous international, national, state, and local dignitaries and delegations. The Division consists of approximately 38 faculty members, 14 fellows/postdoctoral scholars and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
- Five or more years of relevant experience which includes three or more years of supervisory experience
- Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) certification
- Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) certification
- Demonstrated ability to lead a technical staff of bioiformaticians in an Agile Development environment to support researchers, trainees, and decision makers in analysis of malaria genomic epidemiology. At least 2 year’s experience with malaria genomics and/or bioinformatics.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, conflict resolution, mentoring and staff development, supervision, problem solving, understanding of the institutional context of human resources policies and procedures as they realte to management responsibilities. Minimum 2 years in a lead/supervisory role
- Solid knowledge of genomic technology, malaria biology and global health science, demonstrating at least 3 years of experience in malaria research
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, quantitative and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrated experience developing pipelines to support malaria genomic analysis. Demonstrated experience in using Nextflow in pipeline development. At least 1 year experience with Nextflow
- Solid project management experience in bioinformatic analysis. At least 2 years as bioinformatics lead and/or supervisor
