**Position Summary and Responsibilities**

Pennwood Cyber Charter School seeks a dynamic, innovative and solutions-oriented leader to serve as the Director of Special Education. This position leads and oversees all aspects of educational service delivery for students with special education and Section 504 needs. The Director of Special Education works with students, parents and staff to implement a comprehensive special education program that includes specifically designed instruction in the least restrictive environment so that all students’ learning experience includes high levels of engagement and post-secondary preparedness.

Working from the York area office, the Director of Special Education works in collaboration with the CEO and the school leadership team. Leadership responsibilities include collaboration and partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, colleagues from Pearson Virtual Schools, the Educational Service Provider, as well as other Connections Academy schools.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Oversee all aspects of educational service delivery for students with special education and Section 504 needs;
- Lead coordination of instructional and behavioral placements for all students with special education and 504 needs;
- Ensure compliance and on-time delivery with federal and state special education processes, timelines and reporting;
- Partner with the Pennsylvania Department of Education. state school districts, and Pearson Virtual Schools to document and maintain timely Child Find referrals, placements, evaluations and IEP/504 annual and triannual compliance;
- Demonstrate experience in the collection, storage, and updating of data and documentation in a manner that meets or exceeds all compliance expectations;
- Use and analyze student outcomes, engagement metrics and attendance data to make informed instructional and operational decisions ensuring students make quantifiable progress on IEP and/or 504 goals;
- Hire, train, and manage appropriate Special Education staff based on student needs:

- Contribute to and lead professional development for staff;
- Lead and monitor staff to ensure that state testing accommodations for students with IEPs and 504s are provided in an accurate and well-planned manner;
- Contribute to a positive school culture, including but not limited to using tools and events to promote a healthy culture like surveys, socials and recognitions;
- Partner with parents and learning coaches to answer questions and ensure that all school actions are in compliance, and in the interest of maximizing student learning and performance in the Least Restrictive Environment;
- Work efficiently and effectively at resolving any student escalations;
- Serve as a member of the Pennwood Leadership Team;
- Supervise and evaluate staff to ensure the school and staff operate in compliance with all state and federal regulations;
- Lead special education staff meetings and communications so that the team is well-supported and feels valued;
- Communicate with the CEO about the special education team and its performance as well as the academic success of the students;
- Ability to travel and represent the school for legislative. compliancet, and marketing purposes;
- Other duties as assigned.

**Requirements**:

- Active or in process Pennsylvania Supervisory certificate
- Advanced degree in special education, educational leadership or related field
- Active or in process Pennsylvania PK-12 Special Education teacher certificate
- Pennsylvania residency
- 5+ years of teaching expe
