Self Represented Litigant Coordinator

Assist self-represented litigants in the effective and efficient processing of court cases. The coordinator is responsible for guiding self-represented litigants on court statutes, rules, policies and procedural information to ensure that court cases are handled properly and expeditiously. The incumbent is required to assist parties with the preparation and completion of forms, performing case screenings, case intake and case coordination. This is a highly responsible position that involves the use of case management techniques to promote case progression and case disposition.

The ability to speak Spanish is preferred/desired.
**Hours of Work**
- Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.

**Essential Functions**:

- Provide directions to information regarding state statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
- Determine appropriate forms to be filed by self-represented litigants.
- Explain and assist in the completion of forms.
- Explain court processes, scheduling hearings, mediation, status checks, etc.
- Detail other court programs, as well as relevant community resources.
- Act as a liaison between self-represented litigants and other court personnel.
- Provide lead function, advice, or explain work instructions to other employees or volunteers.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Develop new forms and instructional material, educational approaches, and website content, to improve access to justice and enhance court efficiency.
- Review procedures and recommendations from court personnel to improve services to self-represented litigants.
- Serves as a resource to volunteers.
- Engage in community outreach initiatives to strengthen resources for self-represented litigants.
- Keep statistics and prepare reports.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required**:

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to outside sources/larges groups. and respond to questions from court administration staff, supervisors, judges, governmental agencies, and the general public. The ability to write, speak audibly, clearly and accurately in a diverse environment.
- Manages difficult or emotional customer relations situations, responds promptly to customer needs, solicits customer feedback to improve service, responds to requests for service and assistance and meets commitments.
- Displays original thinking and creativity, meets challenges with resourcefulness, generates suggestions for improving work, develops innovative approaches and ideas, presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others’ attention.
- Use of independent judgment within established practice and procedural guidelines.

**Education and/or Work Experience Requirements (**_Ed and/or Other Requirements_**)**
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work preferably in the legal administration, criminal justice, sociology, social work or related field and one year of legal experience working in a court setting or possession of a paralegal certificate.
- An associate degree in paralegal or a paralegal certificate and three years of legal experience working in a court, law library or law office setting.
- Additional legal work experience in a court or law office setting may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.

**Physical Requirements**
- Must possess sufficient physical stamina to allow for pushing and pulling of a cart.
- Capable of lifting and carrying 25 lbs.
- Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
