**Salary range**:$65,000 - $115,000. Salary based on experience and educational credentials.

**Position Description**
The Lower School Art Teacher is an energetic, creative, and skillful visual arts educator who is
responsible for developing Kindergarten through fourth-grade students’ understanding, skills, and
appreciation of art. Additionally, this person nurtures each student’s passions, talents, and boundless
potential in the visual arts. This role is responsible for ensuring the success of the art program and
integration throughout the school year and teaching K-4 students the joy of art as connected to each
grade level’s curricular themes.

**Experience and Essential Job Functions ** Develop and implement a vibrant and engaging visual art program for students in grades K-4
- Cultivate the joy of creating and appreciating art through hands-on projects that focus on a
- variety of media including: pastels, pencils, collage, paint, clay, têxtiles, and printmaking
- May collaborate with the Upper School Art Teacher in content areas including: design,
- photography, Photoshop and other digital software
- Introduce and expand students’ knowledge of a variety of diverse historical and

contemporary art movements
- Collaborate with teachers in planning and execution across disciplines and divisions to ensure

curricular integration and gifted best practices
- Guide and develop students to become confident risk-takers through their artistic expression
- Employ effective teaching methods and student management skills; employ adequate
- supervision to ensure student safety
- Manage art supply purchasing and maintain the annual art supply budget
- Evaluate student work through both formative and summative assessments, benchmarks, and
- other tools to guide instructional planning and promote student success
- Communicate student progress with parents in a timely manner
- Plan and teach all classes as assigned
- Utilize best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology
- Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, inclusive, and invigorating environment
- Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers throughout all grade
- levels on campus to strengthen community and student experience
- Ability to relate and communicate well with students, parents, and colleagues
- Lead and supervise students during field trips
- Strong understanding of independent school methods and ability to effectively integrate best
- practices of NAIS and CAIS
- Demonstrate effective and respectful management of classroom culture and the ability to
- establish connections and rapport with children of all ages
- Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to Mirman’s vision, mission and guiding principles,
- including a commitment to inclusivity and equity
- Exhibit the ability to work as part of a team
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School and Division Heads

**Qualifications**
B.A. or Master’s Degree in Art Education or related field, or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience teaching art, preferably in independent schools
Excellent communication, team-building, and collaborative skills and a sense of humor
Strong knowledge of art pedagogy
Understanding of current technology used in art education
Demonstrated ability to work with differentiated abilities and employ teaching methods
Exhibit high standards of ethics, moral character, professionalism, and the ability to present oneself as
a positive role model for students.
