Culinary Arts Teacher

**Description of Position**: La Cañada Unified School District is seeking a culinary arts teacher to teach a full-time assignment at La Cañada High School for the 2024-25 school year. The course load will be five (5) sections of culinary arts. A probationary contract will be offered, leading to tenure.

**Salary**:Placement on the certificated salary schedule is dependent on education and years of employment in a public school district. No cap on years for public school experience. The starting annual salary range for a fully credentialed teacher is $65,323 to $125,518, which corresponds to $5,938.43 to $11,410.73 per month. Teachers are paid once a month over 11 months, August through June.
**Benefits**: This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $19,788 per year. The benefits year runs October 1 to September 30. If not already a member, the employee will be enrolled in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
**Signing Bonus**: If a newly hired culinary arts teacher signs a contract with the District before May 31, 2024, the District will offer a signing bonus as follows: $3,000 in the first month of paid service based on the 2024-25 work calendar; $1,000 in the first month of paid service based on the 2025-26 work calendar; and $2,000 in the first month of paid service based on the 2026-27 work calendar and permanent status has been granted. If a new employee leaves the District prior to being granted permanent status, the remainder of the installments will be forfeited and not paid to the individual. If the employee leaves employment with the District before the end of the school year in any year that the bonus has been granted, a prorated portion of the current year’s bonus amount will be deducted from the employee’s final paycheck equal to the percentage of the remaining school year.

**Qualifications**:
1. Credential: Valid Designated Subjects Vocational Education Teaching Credential in Food and Beverage Production and Preparation OR a valid Career Technical Education Teaching Credential in Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation. Credential should include a certification to teach English Language Learner students.
2. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
**Work Year**: This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE or 100%), Monday through Friday, mid-August through early June (10 months) with 188 contracted workdays. A new teacher orientation day is scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The first day of paid service is Monday, August 12, 2024. Students are on campus Wednesday, August 14, 2024 through Thursday, June 5, 2025. School is in session 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. with a block schedule on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The last day of the teacher work year is Friday, June 6, 2025.
