- Coordinate employee’s work restrictions, light duty and accommodation request with department.
- Accurately applies the terms of the organization’s short and long-term disability insurance plans.
- Interprets and explains human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations.
- Work with payroll to ensure proper payments made while employee out on leave.
- Assist Managers and Employee Relations as issues that arise with staff with regards to leave issues or accommodation needs
- **Communication**
- Provides the necessary information to employees requesting leave.
- Communicate leave status to managers, directors and timekeepers throughout the employee’s total time out from start to return to work.
- Meets FMLA requirements for timely communication of deadlines and leave status.
- Coordinates communication between employees, managers, physicians, providers, vendors and others to achieve a timely return to work date and prompt resolution of the claim.
- Responds to telephone inquiries from employees, payroll staff, and outside disability insurance vendors. Provides information as appropriate. Works to resolve issues, which frequently involve coordination of data and use of independent judgment. Keeps HR Director apprised of problems. Inquiries require ongoing and sensitive communication with employee’s spouse and/or family members to collaborate on the needs of the employee to successfully obtain the right type of leave or leave associated benefit. Collaboration often starts with a first leave occurrence and can follow the employee’s medical or leave needs through return-to-work, transition to disability, or end of life scenarios.
- **Leave Administration**
- Maintains contact with employees on leave to monitor progress and to obtain timely updates, including return to work date.
- Maintains the FMLA log, sends follow up requests and final notices when paperwork is not received; notifies Employee Relations team of all upcoming potential FMLA terminations.
- Refer employees to the Benefits Department with regards to their premiums due when on an unpaid leave status
- Coordinates/communicates -with payroll bi-weekly to ensure employees paid correctly.
- Communicates and works with a variety of internal and external sources, including physicians, providers, vendors, and others, for timely information about leave status and return to work.
- Maintains required documentation regarding leaves.
- Monitors and tracks leaves of absence and follows up on required documentation such as medical certifications and requests for extended leaves.
- Prepares regular reports on employees on leave and their status.
- Easily adapts to changes in work assignments and work environment.
- **Accommodations**
- Ensures accommodations requests are documented by provider, reviewed with managers, essential functions are clarified, and an interactive conversation is held and documented.

**Requires**:

- Position requires Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field of study. Additional 4 years of HR experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree; APHR or SHRM Assurance of Learning certification preferred.
- Work requires 6-12 months of related HR experience - which includes the ability to:

- effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;
- compose clear communications;
- demonstrate working knowledge of employment laws, organizational policies, and HR practices;
- demonstrate successful work experience that demonstrates attention to accurate detail and timely follow through.
