**What Your Job Will Be Like**:
The following summarizes the assignment duties and responsibilities:

- Primary responsibility for stockpile-related matters within NCWMD Policy
- Participates in the study, review, and adjustment of the programs and budgets needed to support Department of Defense strategies, concepts, and plans
- Identifies and focuses senior policy attention on issues with major defense policy, national security, or international security implications
- Initiates independent analyses of highly complex policy, strategy, concept, and program issues, force possible alternatives, and implications of broad changes to the international environment and defense programs
- Provides expert advice at the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and higher levels on key strategy, planning, programming, budgeting, and policy matters
- Prepares briefings, presentations, and decision memoranda to support deliberations and decisions by senior management
- Reviews and develops Policy positions and responses to actions originating in other DoD and non-DoD offices or agencies that have implications for foreign policy and national security policy, strategy, program planning, and budgets
- Prepares communications for senior leaders, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences on complex issues, both nationally and internationally, in and outside of government
- As directed, represents DoD within the USG interagency and with representatives of foreign governments
- Develops or contributes testimony or other presentations to the Congress and accurately represents DoD positions during contacts with Congressional staff
- Monitors Congressional action on DoD defense strategy, programs, and budget
- Primary conduit of communication between DoD Policy and Sandia at the working level through executive engagements
- Prepares and coordinates official responses to Congressional inquiries and reports

**Qualifications We Require**:

- Bachelor’s and advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a technical or engineering discipline
- Experience in nuclear weapons programs and understanding of nuclear weapons technology (e.g., commensurate with WR708), and knowledge of organizational responsibilities within Sandia
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally

**Qualifications We Desire**:

- Broad experience in nuclear weapons design, development, qualification, production, surveillance, sustainment, and annual assessment as well as non-nuclear component technical maturation.
- Relationships within the Sandia NW program and line organizations.
- Knowledge of the elements of the nuclear enterprise, to include familiarity with NuclearWeapons Council functions and processes.
- Understanding of and experience with the nuclear weapons Phase Processes and the Integrated Phase Gate approach.
- Understanding of the government budget process and NNSA’s funding structure.
- Knowledge of NNSA Defense Programs organizational responsibilities
- Relationships within the NNSA Defense Programs Federal Program Managers Understanding of U.S. interactions with close allies (UK) and NATO
- Relationships within the broader nuclear weapons community such as but not limited to other labs, plants, and sites within DOA/NNSA or the DoD/military

**About Our Team**:
The selected individual will administratively report to organization 320 but will be filling an offsite extended duty IPA Position with the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and reporting to the Pentagon, Washington DC.
