The Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN) leads the U.S. effort to prevent the spread of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, as well as related materials and delivery systems.
This serves as public notice for the use of an Agency-specific Direct Hire Authority. Applicants will be forwarded to the selecting official for consideration. We may select from this announcement or any other source to fill one or more vacancies.
Duties
- Provides expert policy analysis and development of U.S. policy relating to the global nuclear nonproliferation regime. Supports activities of the Sustained Dialogue on Peaceful Uses (SDPU) of nuclear energy, science, and technology.
- Monitors developing political situations/issues, confers with analysts, clarifies divergent viewpoints, and builds consensus for courses of action related to the policy on promoting peaceful uses cooperation, including through the SDPU initiative.
- Assesses the effectiveness of U.S. engagement and advises on the need for more, less, or continued engagement and advocates adjustments in program development and implementation as appropriate.
- Works directly with senior Bureau and/or Department officials to develop U.S. policy and strategies concerning the latest developments and recommends appropriate action.
- Develops and maintains a network of contacts working on nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear science and technology issues at other agencies across the US Government and represents the Department of State positions to those counterparts.
