The Bullis World Languages program emphasizes acquisition, teaching toward proficiency, and assessing performance using Integrated Performance Assessments (IPAs). Guided by the theory and principles of Comprehensible Input (CI), teachers build lessons that engage and challenge students as they grow toward an ability to function in the target language. Teachers employ their creativity to form interdisciplinary, cultural, and personal connections by incorporating a variety of media, such as novellas and blogs, in the target language. Bullis students have opportunities to learn Spanish beginning in Lower School and Chinese, French, and Latin beginning in Middle School.

**Essential Functions**:

- Teach five classes per academic year
- Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
- Collaborate with world language colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives.
- Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning.
- Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using various methods and technology.
- Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
- Collaborate with grade-level colleagues to develop project-based learning opportunities for students.
- Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
- Attend Middle School divisional, world language department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and provide timely feedback to students
- Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and student assignments.

- Continued professional development endeavors

- Commitment and knowledge to work with, teach, and lead groups of diverse individuals in respectful, equitable, and inclusive ways
- Good cheer, humor, and warmth, balanced by professionalism and sound judgment
- Detail-oriented, with the capacity to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks and demands on attention

**Education and Experience**:
**Required**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Classics, Classical Languages, or a related field
- Minimum of two years prior teaching experience

**Preferred**:

- Master’s Degree in Classics, Classical Languages, or related field
- Direct experience with Greco-Roman culture is highly desirable
- Experience with Integrated Performance Assessments is highly desirable
- Proficiency with Windows and Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
