Mount Aviat is seeking an enthusiastic teaching assistant. The educator is responsible to support the classroom teacher in providing a positive environment where children grow in early literacy and math skills, appropriate interaction with others, and how to work effectively in a classroom environment.
Patience, gentleness, and energy are vital qualities for success in this role. The early childhood educator should daily inspire and encourage young children, respecting the different abilities, challenges, and personalities of each one. Responsibilities include:
- Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in his/her care.
- Follow Mount Aviat Academy and MSDE policies and procedures.
- Exhibit a genuine nurturing, caring attitude to all children. Maintains a positive, calm attitude in the classroom.
- Maintain a professional attitude and respects confidentiality.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, volunteers, parents.
- Protect all children from abuse by anyone, and immediately reports any such incident to the principal. Observes children for any suspected signs of child abuse or child neglect and immediately follows all mandatory reporting laws.
- Observe children to detect signs of illness, injury, or other special needs, and reports observations to the teacher for follow up.
- Assist the teacher in preparing materials and supplies in advance for activities.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining discipline and supervision of children during all activities.
- Assist the teacher in entering accurate attendance records daily.
- Become familiar with the teacher’s lesson plans, the daily schedule, and other daily duties of the teacher.
- Assume the teacher’s role in leading selected activities during designated parts of the class-day as requested.
- Perform any other task deemed appropriate by the teacher or principal.
- Assist the teacher in safeguarding all classroom supplies and equipment.
- Attend field trips.
- Assume the teacher’s role in the absence of the teacher, when deemed appropriate.
- Attend training opportunities and staff meetings as determined by the principal or MSDE. Keeps certifications current (i.e., CPR/First Aid etc )
- Speak, interreact and dress in a professional manner that reflects the spirit of the school.
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
