Primary role of veterinary assistant are included but not limited to:

- Client education (including importance of preventive care, Wellness plans, etc.)
- Maintain a clean and orderly hospital (cleaning exam rooms, laundry, treatment area, kennels and re-stocking)
- Proficient and humane patient restraint for various medical treatments
- Assisting in radiology, bandage removal/changes, suture/staple removal, nail trims etc.
- Cleansing, wrapping and sterilizing of surgical instruments and gowns
- Janitorial duties such as vacuuming and mopping floors, cleaning cages and walking hospitalized patients
- Organizing and restocking exam rooms, pharmacy area, treatment room, and surgical areas
- Knowledge of vaccines and vaccine schedule
- Running exam rooms and appointments (wellness, puppy/kitten, recheck)
- Obtain accurate vitals, thorough patient medical history with appropriate grammar and terms
- Experience giving oral medication(s) and/or administering injections
- Have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch as well as manipulate up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds assisted
- Ability tolerate animal feces, urine, blood and/or vomit
- Experience handling anxious and/or aggressive patients is preferred but not required
- Individual who excels in all previously mentioned areas will have opportunity to be trained in areas of venipuncture, running in-house analyzers/laboratory machines, running more detailed/complex exam rooms and appointments

**Preferred Education/Licenses**: Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved or AVAM/CVTEA veterinary assistant program with a minimum of 3.0 GPA or the equivalent combination of hands-on training, education and experience that provides the necessary and required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
