The Office of the University Registrar (UREG) at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced individual to join its collaborative team as Business Analyst for Student Records.

**This is a three-year limited term position based on funding.**

Part of the Enrollment Division, the Office of the University Registrar (UREG) advances the university’s teaching mission by maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and security of student academic records. It also advances the institution’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence by continuously considering the impact of its work with students from all walks of life, especially those from marginalized communities and their families, and by attentively listening and responding to their needs.

Reporting to the Deputy University Registrar, the Business Analyst for Academic Records will work collaboratively with departments within UREG, schools, and other central offices to evaluate existing business processes related to academic requirements, redesign and streamline these processes where appropriate, and if needed design new business processes. The Business Analyst will enhance academic requirements processes, particularly those involving new requirements, courses, and programs. They will review best practices across peer institutions and make recommendations for a new structured framework, addressing inefficiencies and ambiguities around student progress towards degree and program completion. The analyst should possess technical and functional expertise in maintaining academic requirements across student information systems and other technologies.

**Responsibilities**:

- ** Assess and redesign existing business processes related to degree and program completion, contribute to the smooth operation of academic requirements processes, and implement related processes.**
- Leverage a change management methodology, process, and tools to create a strategy to support adoption of the changes required to approve and manage academic requirements.
- Design solutions that leverage degree audit and academic requirements functionality to improve services in UREG, schools, departments, and administrative units.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of documentation related to the degree audit and academic requirements processes.
- ** Utilize existing technical expertise to configure and maintain the business processes and tools that ensure degree requirements for undergraduate and graduate programs are accurately maintained in the student information system and the university's catalogs.**
- Work closely with academic departments, particularly faculty, to ensure the accurate representation of degree requirements across the University Records, and in degree audits.
- ** Support UREG team in providing high quality services to the university community and collaborate with colleagues across the institution to recommend process improvements that benefit colleagues, students and their families, and other stakeholders.**

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree and have at least three (3) years of experience in reviewing and maintaining academic requirement processes and systems.
- More extensive functional experience of four (4) or more additional years in higher education or academic requirements and technical support can serve in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and train or support others in using new technologies.
- Excellent analytical skills—ability to independently define problems accurately and concisely, using both quantitative and qualitative methods, develop and execute one or more solutions, and evaluate its effectiveness.
- Ability to devise or modify complex information systems to include analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements, and revising existing system logic difficulties as necessary.
- Proven track record of conducting process reviews and making actionable recommendations.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Extensive experience in higher education administration, particularly in academic policy development and academic requirements or exceptions to those requirements in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of the policies and procedures of curricular development
- Experience with PeopleSoft, or other student information systems, and/or the ability to independently analyze and redesign business processes through change management methodologies.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling to Charlottesville to attend meetings and programs. This is a three-year term position that requires consistent in-person activities. There will be options for hybrid work.

**Anticipated Hiring Range**:$85,000 - $100,000, commensurate with education and experience.
