**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds), long periods of walking on rough surfaces, some exposure to dust, and climbing stairs on a routine basis. Field inspections expose the inspector to weather elements of heat, rain, cold and the like.

**This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier III Level.**

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
**EDUCATIONAL **REQUIREMENTS**
Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed.

**EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
Two (2) years of journey-level experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required.

**LICENSE REQUIREMENTS**
Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

**PREFERENCES**:
Preference may be given to applicants with carpentry, general contractor or superintendent experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with commercial or residential ICC inspector certification;
**Preference may also be given to applicants who are fluent in Spanish.**
