**Position Overview**

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Museum, responsible for furthering and extending the strategic goals of the institution, including creating and refreshing the Museum’s vision, ensuring creative implementation and fulfillment of the organization’s mission, and extending audience and community impact. The Executive Director guides long-range planning and budgeting, oversees all Museum programs and operations, external relations, and fundraising activities, forges collaborations and alliances with community partners, promotes the organization and facility as a resource for the community and business sector, and ensures that the Museum operates in a fiscally responsible and sustainable manner.

The Executive Director provides day to day leadership and guidance to the Board of Directors and Staff, serves as the primary spokesperson for the organization, and actively engages volunteers and supporters.

**Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities**
- Direct overall operations and staff to achieve overall mission and goals of the Discovery Station.
- Demonstrate leadership supporting an environment for learning and fun.
- Lead by example by providing good customer service to all visitors.

Support staff in their volunteer recruitment and retention efforts.
- Create an environment where volunteers are encouraged to act as docents to share knowledge about exhibits with visitors, answer questions, and enable learning.
- Identify and develop new exhibits and programs to be offered at Discovery Station. Develop funding strategies to support new exhibits and programs.
- Assess existing exhibits on an ongoing basis to determine interest and continued viability.
- Write effective press releases to the media with information about events, new exhibits, and weekly programs to gain public attention with mínimal cost.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships and communications with community leaders to enhance the visibility and marketability of Discovery Station and its programs.
- Develop and execute programs including weekly programs to enhance learning and meet the needs of the community.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships and communications with the Board of Directors.
- Encourage the Board of Directors to serve on standing committees and event planning committees.
- Develop marketing strategy and community outreach programs to enhance utilization of the museum and enhance financial support.
- Improve Revenue Streams through grants, events, and fundraising.
- Actively engage and support the Board of Directors in governance, recruitment, and fundraising activities.

**Administrative**
- Manage financial budget related to income and expenses in conjunction with Board Treasurer.
- Train, manage and coach staff.
- Assess museum staffing needs and work with Executive Committee to increase staffing.
- Maintain and enhance the gift shop to meet the needs of our visitors. Continuously assess merchandise options that are relevant and profitable.
- Manage technical and audio visual needs to support administration (phones, computers, fax, copiers, security system) and exhibits.
- Collaborate with Facilities Chair regarding all facility needs and related contracts to support utilities, security, ongoing maintenance, etc.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
