**Position Summary**

This position is funded through a Lilly Foundation grant for the Parenting Ambassadors of Reconciliation Initiative (PARI), a proposal made by REAL Community Covenant Church in Marion, Indiana. The PARI will run from 2024-2028. Rev. Andrew Morrell, who pastors REAL, will serve as PARI’s Executive Director, and the Evangelical Community Covenant’s accountant will conduct annual audits. For these reasons, this Director will report to the Executive Director and be expected to work collaboratively with a second PARI Director, the Director of Congregational Engagement and Family Connections.

**Director of Curriculum Development and Community Insights**

This role will be deeply collaborative and lead the development of play-based curriculum focusing on conversations around race and poverty for children. The position also includes overseeing the design and feedback process of the curriculum, ensuring it aligns with developmental needs and theological principles that align with the Evangelical Covenant Church. This director will administer surveys and conduct interviews. They will also synthesize data and insights gathered from surveys, conversations, and listening sessions within the church community; collaborate with Montessori and other elementary educators; and work closely with experts in race and poverty. Finally, they will assist the other director in evaluating the cohort activities and immersion trips. Once hired, they will become a staff member of REAL Community Covenant Church and report to the Pastor and the Leadership Team. This role is funded for five years as part of a grant with the Christian Parenting & Caregiving Initiative through the Lilly Endowment.

**Duties and Responsibilities at Full-Time, Salaried, approx. 40 hours/week, Hybrid**

1. Conduct research on and consult with experts about best practices for educating children ages 3-12 regarding race and poverty through a biblical lens;
2. Network with local and ECC Churches to designate leaders, parents, and children as cohorts from 16 churches willing to participate in the project;
3. Conduct field research via surveys and interviews with cohorts;
4. Ensure ethical research methods are used for surveys, interviews, story collections, and videos of testimonials;
5. Write the content of the play-based curriculum;
6. Collaborate with Marion Design Co. to produce deliverables with aesthetically pleasing, effective, and cost-efficient designs;
7. As needed, collaborate the Director of Congregational Engagement and Family Connections (DCEFC) to plan and host retreats and Immersive Learning Experiences;
8. Synthesize research data and insights and assess the project’s effectiveness, collaborating with the DCEFC as needed;
9. Collaborate with the Executive Director and DCEFC to write annual reports;
10. Finalize annual financial reports;
11. In year 5, work with the DCEFC to disseminate the curriculum by working with the Central Conference of the ECC.

**Education**

**Required**: Master's degree in related field, such as education, grant administration, curriculum development/instructional design, English, or another liberal arts degree.

**Experience**

Minimum of five years of experience in related field.

**Required Characteristics and Skills**
- Committed Christian who is likewise committed to racial and economic justice;
- Current Member/Mission Friend of REAL Community Covenant Church or willing to become a REAL Member;
- Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills;
- Ability to network with diverse professionals;
- Experience writing curriculum and/or lesson planning;
- Informed about educational practices related to child development (3-12 years old);
- Informed about cross-cultural and multi-class research;
- Experience with cross-cultural and multi-class conversations;
- Experience with field research, including surveys and interviews;
- Demonstrated ability to manage organizational finances and maintain a budget;
- Computer skills required for administering, collecting, and analyzing survey data.

**Preferences**
- Experience teaching children under the age of 12;
- Experience educating parents and church leaders;
- Knowledge of theological principles in educational settings for elementary aged children.
