**The Role**

This position will be responsible for leading the Submarine Concepts and Systems Integration group in Department E42, Naval Architecture and Weight Engineering. Primary responsibilities will include managing development of submarine and undersea warfare concepts, overseeing naval architectural analyses of concepts, impact assessments of integrating systems and technologies (locally and at the whole-boat level), development of submarine general arrangements, and oversight of E42 submarine design tasking (funded and IR&D). This position regularly communicates with NAVSEA tech codes, Program Offices at NNS/Electric Boat/USN, contacts in academia/industry/USN, managers/engineers/designers across E42 and other departments, and NNS senior management.

**Must Have**

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design or Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

**Nice to Have**
- Extensive experience in submarine naval architecture and whole-boat design, spanning from early concept to detail design phases.
- Experience leading Navy-funded and NNS IR&D tasking.
- Experience performing ship (preferably submarine) design space exploration, concept formulation, trade/sensitivity studies, ship synthesis, and various naval architecture analyses.
- Experience working in matrixed team settings, preferably with leadership responsibilities, effectively collaborating with peers with diverse experience, backgrounds, roles, and disciplines.
- Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to present highly technical data to management and peers in a clear, concise format.
