The Volunteer Experience Associate acts as an ambassador for Houston Food Bank’s Volunteer Experience. The Volunteer Experience Associate is responsible for providing the ultimate volunteer experience by providing excellent customer service for all new and returning volunteer groups. This position will lead and support all volunteer groups, this role is responsible for executing all daily assigned projects as identified by the Volunteer Experience Team. As the face of Volunteer Services, this position interacts heavily with the public and must possess exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, as well as a high-energy, can-do attitude. This role must be comfortable engaging with large, diverse groups of people daily. This position will commit to the Mission, Vision, and Values of Houston Food Bank.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:

- Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and participating in meetings and presentations.
- Warmly welcomes all volunteer groups with a positive attitude and provides the ultimate volunteer experience to every volunteer group.
- Attends mandatory huddle meetings with the Production Manager, Floor Supervisors, and other Volunteer Experience Associates to review and discuss the volunteer shift schedule and be aware of trends and/or specifics.
- Manages small/large volunteer groups coordination and/or last-minute volunteer shift changes; Must be willing to collaborate with other team members to delegate shared tasks, ensure project areas are pre-staged, the status of product availability and materials are known at all times and utilize any existing knowledge of all Volunteer Services Department Projects, VP Representatives Training Manual and other internal resources that will ensure the project runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Properly allocates volunteer roles and identifies opportunities to utilize Apple Corps Leaders, Student Heroes, and Blue Badges to aid in the success of the project production process.
- Actively works alongside volunteers and provides hands-on instructional training, professionally answer any questions or concerns throughout the project, and monitor volunteers within the project area to ensure all safety guidelines are followed.
- Anticipates, identifies, and mediates potential issues during project production by pausing production, and observing and controlling supply levels of product and box inventory.
- Responsible for quality control by inspecting finished pallets prior to racking to ensure proper temperature, no signs of pest activity, cleanliness of product, and all packed items protected/secure for transport and distribution.
- Ensures all required project paperwork is completed prior to and at the end of each assigned volunteer shift; obtain all approval signatures from the Floor Supervisor.
- Responsible for the sanitation, cleanliness & maintenance of the project areas prior to and following a project using the standard cleaning schedule provided by the Production team management.
- Ensures all project supplies are stocked and product damages are reported in a timely manner; confirm equipment is operable and well-maintained during the project startup/shutdown process; inform the Production management team about supply inventory levels and any project area repairs and/or equipment replacement needed.
- Promotes and maintains the safety of volunteers and self while using box cutters, pallet jacks, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Responsible for actively participating in monthly onsite departmental meetings; completing ongoing virtual training through various Learning Management Systems (ADP, LinkedIn Learning) and demonstrating project proficiency during hands-on training; attending assigned offsite projects to support HFB Partners. Must be willing to engage in educational opportunities regarding hunger and food insecurity and support HFB’s advocacy efforts toward serving our communities.

**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education/Experience**:

- High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate Some college or bachelor's degrees preferred
- 1 + years of experience required in Customer Service, Retail, Warehouse or Event Planning
- Bilingual preferred, but not required
- Must be able/willing to operate forklift and electric pallet jacks
