Workforce Development Specialist

This position is located in the Department of Employment Services (DOES), Office of Federal Workforce Programs. The Department of Employment Services (DOES) mission is to connect District residents, job seekers, and employers to opportunities and resources that empower fair, safe, effective working communities.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Provide applicants with pertinent labor market information, and job and/or training opportunities geared to need. Screen applicant files against Job Bank listings and refer qualified applicants to jobs. Perform verification and follow-up of referral/placement activities. Provide on-site counseling and other services to ensure job adjustment. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with public and private sector employers by telephone contact and personal visits utilizing extensive knowledge of occupational requirements and the labor market to develop job openings for specific applicants.
Provide comprehensive employability services including extensive counseling to applicants requiring individualized assistance on vocational educational and/or social adjustment problems affecting their employability or satisfactory job adjustment. Collaborate with other organizational units to ensure that manpower services and resources consistent with applicant needs are made available. Select and assemble information from files, records, etc. for use in preparing recurring and non-recurring reports.
**Qualifications and Education**
**_ Specialized Experience:_** Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least one (1) year at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression

**Tour of Duty**:Monday - Friday;** **8:30 a.m. - 5:00p.m.
**Duration of Appointment**: Career Service - Term (Not-to exceed 13 months)
**Pay Plan, Series and Grade**: CS-0142-09
**Promotion Potential**: No known promotion potential
**Collective Bargaining Unit**: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by AFGE Local 1000 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee (dues) through direct payroll deduction.
