This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Organizational Culture and Wellness Bureau, Human Resources Management Division (HRMD). The Program Coordinator position is crucial for ensuring compliance with Title II of the American Disability Act (ADA) and managing workers' compensation appeals. The incumbent will play a key role in addressing ADA grievances, evaluating accommodation requests, and reviewing appealed workers' compensation cases.

The incumbent will be responsible for the following:
**ADA Coordination**:

- Serves as the primary point of contact for all agency ADA-related requests and claims, it is the responsibility of this role to prioritize accommodation requests and ensure prompt and fair resolution of any accommodation complaints or inquiries from MPD members. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintaining a record of all disability and accommodation requests, along with their respective issues and resolutions.
- Ensures timely processing of workers’ compensation claims and ADA requests. Evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for ADA compliance. Stay updated on ADA regulations and coordinate with external agencies on ADA-related issues.
- Identify ADA compliance and accessibility concerns and provide solutions for any concerns that may arise.
- Conducts audits of accessibility and bureau/public accommodations.
- Ensures confidentiality of employee records is fully maintained and that all medical standards and protocols are followed.
- Ensures accuracy and completeness of electronic and physical records through creation and maintenance of tracking systems.
- Collaborates with department heads and stakeholders to integrate ADA requirements into operations.
- Coordinates, tracks and reports on ongoing grievances and accommodations for the department related to Title II of the ADA.
- Gathers and manages workforce disability baseline data while working collaboratively with partners to elevate the needs of the workforce related to disability inclusion and accessibility.
- Creates and implements ADA training in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Compliance and Oversight Program's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (EOCOP's ODEI) and the Office of Human Rights (OHR).

**Workers' Compensation**:

- Ensures that the Workers' Compensation program is managed in accordance with applicable OSHA and workers' compensation laws.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for employees regarding workers' compensation claims, providing information on the claims process, benefits, and return-to-work programs.
- Serves as the liaison between MPD and the Office of Risk Management.
- Advises and counsels claimants of their rights and remedies where controversies and technical issues occur. Provides guidance to peers and supervisors relative to the protocols of medical claims for illness, injury and stress claims.
- Conducts in depth reviews of appealed cases and the decisions issued by Medical Services Division (MSD) for factual sufficiency prior to scheduling a hearing; and renders appellate level decisions. Negotiates settlement with claimants and attorneys.
- Researches and analyzes federal, state, and local laws related to MPD’s duty to make its facilities and services accessible to individuals with disabilities. Identifies barriers to accessibility, and recommends remedial action so that MPD’s facilities, programs, activities, and services comply with federal and state laws regarding accessibility requirements.
