**Brief Summary of Job Duties**

**Required Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, education, social work or other mental health related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with individuals in mental health crisis.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Master’s Degree in counseling, education, social work or other mental health related field.
- Experience working with college students and knowledge of developmental stages and risk factors for this population.
- Knowledge or experience in Student Affairs.

**Job Functions and Percentages of Time**:
**40% Distressed Student Consultation**:

- Independently serves as a primary point of contact for members of the campus community, including staff, faculty and students, who are seeking consultation and advice about or services for students who seem to be experiencing psychological distress. Occasionally may be called on to respond to inquiries from faculty, staff, and students after hours or on weekends.
- Serves as a primary point of contact on any distressed student concerns involving potential threats to self or others and referring cases to campus multidisciplinary response teams (i.e. Student Behavioral Intervention Team (SBIT) and the Students of Concern Team (SOC Team)). Also, notifies the Threat Management Team (TMT) incident coordinator of student cases which involve or are impacting faculty and staff.
- Collaborates with the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) and provides professional recommendations to OSC in student cases involving mental health and wellness concerns.
- Responsible for the daily operation and management of the Distressed Student Response Protocol in the absence of the Associate Director.

**25% Basic Needs Liaison**:

- Represents the SMHCS department in efforts to support and build partnerships with the UCSB Basic Needs Program, Financial Crisis Response Team, and Rapid Rehousing Team. Works to develop a system of wraparound support for students who are homeless or housing insecure and need help navigating university and community resources. Ensure that issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion are recognized and assessed as factors impacting a student’s wellbeing.
- Coordinates programs to support at risk students, including exploring new and innovative ways to engage students, faculty, and staff. Engages in a comprehensive approach to creating healthier learning communities via consultation and education with the campus community.
- Collaborates with campus mental health providers to regularly gather and disseminate information about campus mental health services and promotion of wellbeing resources via the Basic Needs newsletter.

**25% Managing Student Mental Health Crises**:

- Works closely with the Assistant Dean of Students/SMHCS Associate Director and Dean of Student Wellness to manage student mental health crisis cases that require the attention of the university.
