Recreation Counselor

**Summary/Objective**:
The Recreation Assistant Counselor, under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor, will plan and carry out structured recreation activities with a constructive and wholesome use of leisure time as its purpose. The RAC is responsible for the protection, care, and supervision of the youth involved in the recreation program.

**Essential Functions**:

- Plan, organize and implement recreation activities in coordination with other New Beginnings staff.
- Help write summaries and reports as well as keep records and log notes on girls/boys as required by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Create a monthly calendar for all group homes and cottages.
- Explain and enforce activity rules and expectations.
- Maintain school classroom/ recreation facilities and equipment in good standing.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the recreation supervisor.

**Schedule**: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and (Alternative weekends) 8:00am - 6:00pm

**Position Qualifications**:
Two years of experience in the organization and supervision of physical and recreational activities. One or more years experience with childcare in a residential treatment center or group home. Must be able to relate well and provide crisis intervention services to adolescent youth. Some computer experience preferred
- Must be in good health. Be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks for this class of employees.
- Must meet Title XXII personnel requirements with regards to fingerprints, forms, and documents.
- Have and maintain CPR, First Aid (must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment), and
- Water Safety certification.
- Have and maintain Professional Assault Crisis Training (ProACT)
- Obtain all other required training.
- Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Must have a valid California drivers license and good driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is frequently very active and often requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay: $18.72 - $22.71 per hour
