**On-on-One Paraprofessional - Visually Impaired**

**Reports To**: Director of Student Services

**Schedule**: 6.5 hours per day / 5 days per week / School Year Position (38 Weeks)

**Pay Grade**: Approx. $17 per hour

**Job Summary**:Provide one-on-one services to a visually impaired student, including, but not limited to, performing a variety of Braille translation and transcribing functions and activities and assisting in the implementation of learning experiences.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma
- A strong understanding of both the English Language and Braille
- Strong technology skills and/or familiarity with Braille technology
- Prior experience as a Braille Interpreter, preferably in a classroom setting

**Essential Job Functions**:

- Provide one-on-one Braille interpreter and translation services to a visually impaired student
- Prepare related materials in support of visually impaired/blind students
- Perform a variety of Braille translation and transcribing of printed material and oral instructions; prepare Braille copies of tests, study materials, maps textbooks, chart and other instructional aids and materials.
- Consistent and reliable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Physical Requirements**:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus. **Work Environment**:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors.

**Mental Functions**:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.

**Terms of Employment**:
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
