Director of Accounting

**Responsibilities/Duties**:
**Accounting & Reporting Systems**
- Provide overall direction and supervision of the general accounting, client accounting and fiduciary accounting operations for all of the Firm’s locations.
- Control the preparation of the Firm’s financial and management accounting records and participate in all financial audits.
- Ensure that effective systems and procedures for accounting and financial reporting are developed and maintained.
- Direct the maintenance of an effective system of internal controls to assure proper delegation of responsibilities and appropriate checks and balances within the Firm’s accounting functions.
- Implement process improvements to accounting procedures to ensure proper internal controls while increasing efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Present accurate management information in a timely and reliable manner to Firm Management.
- Coordinate Firm’s responses to financial surveys.
- Oversee the preparation of the Firm’s Retirement Plan financial statements and 5500.
- Oversee Retirement Plan transactions and evaluate for compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Coordinate the Firm’s insurance risk management program to include property, casualty and professional liability insurance.
- Liaison with Firm’s risk management staff and with insurance carriers and brokers to update coverage as appropriate.
- Coordinate the Firm’s leases with respect to property and equipment including oversight of the accounting and depreciation of construction costs in a manner that maximizes tax benefits and Firm profitability.
**Budgeting and Expense Management**
- Control and account for all capital expenditures authorized by the Firm.
- Authorize operating expenditures for ordinary and necessary expenses provided within the annual budget.
- Manage Firm’s annual budget process for both revenue and expenses.
- Work with Administrative managers to collect info, input, analyze, review and report on monthly variances.
- Assess trends in the Firm’s revenues, expenses and overall profitability.
- Recommend strategies for increasing revenues and controlling expenses to the Chief Financial Officer.
**Tax & Partner Compensation**
- Oversee state and local tax requirements in all jurisdictions for which we practice.
- Oversee Partner Compensation process including draws and distributions, account reconciliations and year end audit of equity of accounts.
- Oversee preparation and distribution of K-1’s, and tax elections of partners.
- Regularly provide partners with updates as to draws, distributions and related deductions.
- Oversee state tax filings for partner compensation purposes.
- Collaborate with external accountants.
- Stay current on new tax law opportunities that could benefit the partners.
- Serve as the main resource for retired partner inquiries.
**Banking and Cash Management**
- Monitor the Firm’s cash position and project working capital requirements.
- Invest cash balances and borrow funds to meet working capital needs within established policy guidelines.
- Manage and maintain relationships with existing bankers.
**Administrative Functions**
- Lead Accounting team and provide training, feedback, coaching and development opportunities.
- Delegate work to direct reports.
- Supervise, evaluate and assess the performance of direct reports.
**Education/Experience**:
- CPA Required
- Bachelor’s degree required with major in Accounting or Finance
- 10+ years of overall finance, accounting and tax experience required, preferably in a professional services organization
- Well-developed and sophisticated leadership, organization, communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to relate to and gain the confidence of people at all levels within an organization, as well as an ability to build strong relationships and work in a collaborative environment
- Self-starter with drive and enthusiasm
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Strong Excel skills
- Creator-innovator with an ability to implement solutions and complete projects
- Experience working with a team of high-achieving individuals who work in a pressured environment
