**Job Summary**: As an assistant manager at Vernon Powell Shoes, you will play a key role in supporting the store manager in all aspects of store operations, including sales, customer service, staff management, and inventory control. In addition to sales associate and key holder responsibilities, you will assist in driving sales and profitability while ensuring an exceptional shopping experience for our customers. Assistant managers should be active in supporting the manager’s policies and should hold associates accountable to doing their jobs. Assistant managers are not only responsible for their departments, but also for ensuring the entire store is running smoothly when other managers are not present. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for delivering outstanding service.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Support the store manager in achieving sales targets and financial goals by maximizing store performance and driving key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training new team members, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide exceptional customer service. Conduct on-floor evaluations.
- Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to store associates to foster their professional development and enhance productivity.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to staff, ensuring that all operational activities are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service, resolving customer issues and inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Assist with inventory management tasks, including receiving shipments, conducting stock counts, and ensuring proper merchandising and replenishment of products on the sales floor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including safety regulations, cash handling procedures, and inventory control protocols.
- Collaborate with the store manager to develop and implement sales strategies, promotions, and initiatives to drive store traffic and increase sales revenue.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment, adhering to company standards and guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for opening and closing the store as needed, including cash management, security procedures, and facility maintenance.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred.
- 5-10 years retail experience, with a focus on sales and customer service.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a customer-focused mindset.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move boxes of merchandise weighing up to 30 pounds.
