**Introduction**:
The Department of Workforce Development, Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division is hiring a **Quality Control Investigator** to ensure the accuracy and integrity of UI Benefits.

This recruitment may be used to fill future similar permanent, project, and/or LTE vacancies.

**Position Summary**:

- Audit the accuracy of benefit payments
- Identify the cause of improper payments and erroneous denials
- Analyze earnings reported from a variety of sources
- Verify work searches, benefit year wages and other information provided by outside parties
- Perform final review of peer case files

**Salary Information**:
Starting salary is between $28.50 and $30.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits. For more benefits information, view our benefits overview.

A 12-month probationary period will be required. The classification title for this position is Unemployment Benefit Specialist Advanced (schedule 12, range 63). This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is non exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

**Job Details**:
**Criminal histories**: We also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required.

**Eligibility to work in United States**: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

**Qualifications**:

You will **need to have**:

- Experience independently adjudicating complex Unemployment Insurance eligibility issues, such as Educational Employment, Employment Status, Excluded Employment, Family Controlled Employment, Self-Employment, Pension Payments, Qualifying Conditions or similar
- Experience analyzing and reconciling information from a variety of sources, such as computer and manual payroll registers, earnings records, employer, claimant and agency records
- Experience working independently while meeting timeliness and quality standards
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to achieve business objectives, including creating and maintaining effective working relationships

It would be **nice to have** any of the following:

- Experience resolving issues in accordance with WI statutes chapter 108
- Experience in other functional areas of UI such as claims taking, wage record, staff development, special programs, tax and accounting or elsewhere.
