**About the Role**:
This unique position embeds a PIO directly within the RTMC, providing a critical link between the public and the center's vital operations. You will be responsible for crafting and disseminating clear, concise, and timely information about traffic conditions, incidents, and ongoing RTMC projects.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Monitor traffic conditions and incidents**: Work closely with RTMC staff to understand real-time traffic situations and develop clear and consistent messaging for the public.
- **Draft and disseminate public information**: Prepare press releases, social media content, and other communication materials to keep the public informed about traffic updates, safety initiatives, and RTMC activities.
- **Facilitate media relations**: Respond to media inquiries about the RTMC and its role in managing regional traffic flow.
- **Organize and conduct RTMC tours**: Proactively reach out to elected officials, community leaders, and stakeholder groups to schedule and conduct informative tours of the RTMC facility.
- **Serve as the RTMC's public information spokesperson**: Develop and deliver presentations about the RTMC's role in traffic management for various audiences.
- **Maintain positive relationships**: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media representatives, community leaders, and the public.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of experience in public information or communications, preferably in a government or transportation-related setting.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies.
- Strong media relations experience, including the ability to pitch stories and respond to media inquiries effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Valid Florida Driver's License and a clean driving record.

**Additional Skills (preferred)**:

- Experience with social media management platforms.
- Knowledge of the Florida Department of Transportation and its mission.
- Understanding of traffic management systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Administration or a closely related field and five years' public relations, public information, media and/or customer relations experience.
- Proven track record of project management success
- High degree of self-motivation and professional decorum.
- Effective and grammatically proficient writing, editing, public speaking, networking and community involvement. Preference will be given to those who can creatively communicate technical issues for a general public audience.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to meet project deliverables on time.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
