Are you a compassionate individual with a knack for brightening someone's day? We're seeking a dedicated companion for an elderly woman in Staten Island. Client was diagnosed with early-stage Alzheimer's in June 2022 and is currently undergoing Leqembi infusions. Despite her diagnosis, she remains active and engaged but has experienced a decline in social interactions as many of her friends have withdrawn since her diagnosis.
She resides in a busy household with teenage grandchildren. However, she craves additional stimulation and a renewed sense of purpose. She enjoys playing cards and cooking meals, but she would greatly benefit from regular companionship and engaging activities.
**Responsibilities**:
Provide companionship and emotional support to client
Engage in stimulating activities such as playing cards and cooking meals
Accompany on short outings or walks if desired
Foster a supportive and positive environment
**Requirements**:
Previous experience in elderly care or companion roles preferred
Compassionate and patient demeanor
Ability to engage in meaningful conversations and activities
Reliable and punctual
Female preferred
**Schedule**: 2-3 times per week for 4 hours each visit. Flexible scheduling available.

**Responsibilities**:
- Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
- Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.
- Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
- Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
- Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
- Reminding clients to take their medications.
- Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine).
- Assisting clients in preparing meals.
- Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.
**Qualifications**:
- A valid HHA certificate in New York State
- A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
- Deep empathy and patience.
- Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
- Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
- Strong composure under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
