Cantonese Language Teacher

The Newton Cantonese School is a non-profit organization looking for instructors who have similar goals and passion as the school to teach the Cantonese language and the Chinese culture to interested families on Saturday mornings. We are looking for class (multiple student) instructors, as well as (individual student) tutors.

The Newton Cantonese School curriculum offers 2 educational tracks:

- **The Conversational Track** focuses on verbal dialog skills and the recognition of basic Chinese traditional characters. This track is suitable for students who do not speak the language or are not very fluent in the language.
- **The Literacy Track** focuses on reading and writing Chinese characters following the

traditional character strokes. This track is more suitable for students who are already familiar with the language.
- Previous work experience
- Experience working with children in a daycare or school setting preferred
- Fluent in English and Cantonese language skills, both verbal and written (traditional Chinese characters, required)
- Basic computer skills
- Requires a commitment to work every Saturday morning (1 ½ - 3 hours) during the school year (September -June); and time commitment up to 2 hours during the weekday for class preparation
