Under the direction of the THPO, to support the THPO and Department in carrying out the duties prescribed by the THPO and/or Tribal Council to promote, protect, preserve and manage all matters relating to Cultural Resources. The APC needs to be a team player and must be able to work well with the Field Operations Coordinator and GIS Mapping Coordinator. Must be self-motivated, can multi-task, maintain a positive attitude, oversee department office and possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ensure the protection and preservation of Cultural Resources during pre-construction and/or pre-development activities, including plans for ground disturbance activities during emergencies within the Middletown Rancheria’s ancestral lands
- Create and/or review plans and reports to ensure Native American remains and associated grave items are treated with appropriate dignity according to Middletown Rancheria’s customs and traditions
- Assist in evaluating Initial Studies, Environmental Impact Reports, Cultural Resources Reports and/or any other reports for proposed development projects within the aboriginal and ancestral lands of Middletown Rancheria
- Ability to conduct initial site surveys and field pre-work for monitoring activities within the aboriginal boundaries of Middletown Rancheria’s ancestral lands
- Assist in providing adequate documentation and/or information for tribal monitoring, including locations of known cultural sites or resources and any other information beneficial to the tribal monitor in performing monitoring duties
- Assist the Field Operations Coordinator (FOC), including maps and files as needed
- Responsible for providing information to the FOC of upcoming projects and current projects where ground disturbance activities are planned and/or occurring
- Assist in the maintenance of historic and cultural properties inventory of Middletown Rancheria’s ancestral lands, including adequate documentation of records and forms
- Ability to take messages, return phone calls and coordinate and/or attend meetings
- Track and maintain a log of potential projects, upcoming projects, and current projects
- Provide follow-up activities to potential projects within the ancestral lands of Middletown Rancheria and track accordingly in log and files
- Assist in the education of contractors, developers, vendors, and staff working within the Middletown Rancheria’s ancestral lands with an awareness of cultural resources, cultural sensitivity, and observance for the inadvertent discovery of cultural resources
- Keep detailed notes and records information in the appropriate format for Middletown Rancheria’s file records, including electronic records and GIS records
- Ability to provide tribal monitoring, if needed
- Ability to locate and schedule any needed training for the department
- Produce daily and weekly reports of project activities, as needed
- Produce monthly written reports of project activities, as requested
- Work within established deadlines, as requested
- Travel to pre-construction and/or pre-development sites, as needed
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with organizational skills
- Order personal protective equipment (PPE) for tribal monitors, any other supplies as needed and maintain an inventory, as needed
- Must be able to listen, always communicate and maintain a professional manner
- Ability to work well and in a cordial manner with the General Public, Tribal Council, Tribal Administration, Tribal Members, Team Members and Tribal Monitors
- Ability to communicate clearly with the THPO, Field Operations Coordinator, GIS Mapping Coordinator, Supervisors within the Tribal Government, and all federal, state and/or local governmental agencies, including archeological firms and consultants
- Other duties as directed by the THPO and/or Tribal Council

1. Associate degree or the equivalent

3. Knowledge of archaeological excavation and investigation procedures

4. Knowledge and experience of cultural landscapes, such as villages, hunting and camping sites, gathering areas, and/or burial sites

5. Knowledge of federal and state laws enacted to protect Native American cultural resources, cultural properties, cultural sites, burial sites and cemeteries

6. Knowledge of topographical maps and use of UTMs

7. Ability to learn new computer software programs or mobile apps, as needed

8. Physically able to conduct surveys and site visits

9. Must be sensitive to tribal culture and cultural differences
