This Position will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Town of Cumberland and the Teamsters Local 251. Hours for this position are 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Monday through Friday. Starting rate for this position is $23.25 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Highway Superintendent, the Laborer I shall perform a variety of manual tasks requiring physical strength and stamina, but not a high degree of manipulating skill in order to do an effective job. Work involves the use of a variety of hand tools and small powered equipment. Many work assignments are repetitive which once learned can be performed routinely. Work is usually performed as a member of the crew under the immediate direction of a superior

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The Laborer will work daily from the Cumberland Highway Garage.
In addition, the Laborer I is responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Performing a variety of grounds maintenance tasks, cuts grass, pull weeds
Cuts, gathers and chips brush with chipping machine
Picks up litter from roadside
Cleans catch basins and storm drains.

Snow Plowing and removal
Patches road surfaces, shovels patch material into potholes, rakes and smooths material, assists in snow removal operations
Operates power mower, riding mower and other hand tools and equipment
Preforms related work as required
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
Must have a CDL license or obtain one within the 6 month probationary period.
Experience in lawnmowers and grass cutting of fields and maintenance preferred
Ability to grease and maintain equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions
Ability to learn to operate power and hand tools used in grounds maintenance activities safely and efficiently.

**Salary**: $23.25per hour

Pay: From $23.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
