**Summary of Role**:

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Play a critical role in the agency by serving as a direct client contact, developing, and implementing key programs and initiatives for high-profile clients and maintaining solid media and client relationships essential to the agency’s growth.
- Determine what our clients need to be successful, lead development and provide communications solutions.
- Demonstrate project management skills to manage multiple initiatives, maintain timelines and ensure quality assurance of all client deliverables.
- Have a nose for news and regularly and proactively identify newsworthy opportunities to share client stories and craft compelling materials that clients can use through a variety of channels to elevate their storytelling.
- Continually think of new approaches and creative ways to share stories that drive actions by the target audience.
- Act as a strategic partner and tactical leader to help accomplish client goals.
- Contribute to new business growth through proposals, introducing clients to new capabilities, building a network of contacts, and participating in relevant professional organizations.

**Experience Requirements**:

- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related coursework. Advanced degree/coursework welcome.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A minimum of 5+ years of professional communications experience working in a relevant industry, with at least 2+ years of experience managing people.
- Previous experience in an agency setting or in-house at an environmental or conservation advocacy organization, zoo, aquarium, sanctuary or other wildlife care or protection specialty organization.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent presentation, and interpersonal and communication skills.
- Solid research, analysis, and editing skills, as well as understanding and explaining complex topics persuasively and engagingly for general audiences.
- Familiarity with the roles that zoos and aquariums play in wildlife conservation, such as cooperative breeding programs and contributions to field conservation research. Be familiar with the 30x30 concept, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list and be able to communicate with fluency how various conservation techniques like habitat restoration, prescribed burns, and wildlife recovery efforts support nature conservation. Be familiar with current trends of biodiversity loss, factors influencing climate change and be able to communicate with understanding some nature-based solutions.
- Proficiency with proven results in national media relations to drive earned placements that engage audiences.
- Organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
