The Office of Engineering Studies at Chicago State University is pleased to announce the 2024 Pre-Freshman Program in Engineering and Science. The program is designed to make students aware, at an early age, of the professional opportunities in engineering and convince them to take more math and science as a part of their academic course load. The six-week summer program will consist of educational, motivational, and recreational activities designed to stimulate interest in math\science that will ensure success in an engineering curriculum.
**Job Description**:
**_Job Responsibilities_**:
- The instructor will be responsible for instructing principles in engineering to 9th through 12th-grade program participants. The instructor will teach social justice topics to the engineering project classes.
- The instructor will use math and science principles to teach the engineering project classes.
- The instructor will incorporate coding into the engineering projects. The instructor will be required to teach students basic science and math concepts according to their age group.
- Pre-college students will explore social justice topics and design a engineering solution learning about sensors, wind tunnel output effects and loads, blade design - pitch and area, and blade design - quality and mass. The students will eventually create a wind farm.
- The teacher will take attendance each day of the program.
- The teacher must write lesson plans and present them to the office before the start of the program. A class syllabus must be written and given on the first day of class.
- The teacher must be present and on time every day of the program. (The instructor’s day will begin at 7:45 a.m.)
- All teachers are required to chaperone planned field trips.
- The teacher must attend the orientation and awards ceremony.
- The teacher must present academic awards at the awards ceremony.
- The teacher must attend three meetings throughout the summer to discuss program issues and concerns. (Meetings are typically held at 7:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m.)
**_Program Dates_**:
The 2024 Pre-Freshman Program in Engineering and Science will begin on Monday, June 16, 2024, and end on Friday, August 2, 2024. Hours of program operation are 7:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors(+) in the field of STEM. Experience working with underrepresented youth with a minor in Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors(+) in the field of STEM. Experience working with underrepresented youth. Bachelors in Technology Education/Computer Science/ or Engineering
