**DESCRIPTION OF WORK**:
As an Adult Basic Education Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you are responsible for the education of Adult Offenders. You prepare lesson plans by specifying content and activities to be covered, sequence of instruction, material needed, and standards for lesson accomplishment. Also, you prepare assessment techniques and analyze the information gathered to determine adult inmate capabilities and readiness of learning. In addition, you prepare and administer quizzes, tests, and exercises to direct students' study and measure individual achievement.

**Work Schedule and Additional Information**:

- Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
- Work hours are 7:45 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

**REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY**:
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Minimum Experience and Training Requirements**:

- Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education;_ _**or**:

- A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum;_ _**or**:

- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

**Special Requirements**:

- An employee assigned to a Commonwealth Secondary Diploma facility who was hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit must obtain a valid and active Instructional Level 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

**Other Requirements**:
