Location/Division Specific Information

This position is based in Austin, TX, and will support to the Genetic Sciences Division (GSD).

A Day in the Life:

- Ability to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation wearing appropriate PPE including face mask, lab coat, and gloves.
- Isolate and dilute nucleic acids in a manufacturing environment, including RNA and DNA, using pipetting and spectrophotometric techniques.
- Perform quality control testing on buffers and nucleic acids, including pH, conductivity, agarose gels, and nucleic acid purification using magnetic beads and quantification by qPCR.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing and quality control activities and record results in technical reports.
- Revise and edit existing manufacturing protocols; participate in the development of manufacturing protocols for new products.
- Actively participate in Practical Process Improvement (PPI) projects, including kaizens.
- Lead manufacturing metrics aimed at process control and productivity savings.
- Prioritize and schedule work to ensure on-time delivery.
- Accurately and efficiently manage inventory.
- Work collaboratively with peers from your own and other groups.
- Train co-workers in the proper use of instrumentation, manufacturing processes, and manufacturing software.
- Adhere to ISO guidelines, USDA regulations, and Thermofisher Scientific quality policy.
- Adopt a positive demeanor which contributes to a healthy work environment.
- Ability to work with chemicals.

- Keys to Success:
- Education- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Biochemistry or related field
- Experience- 3+ years of related post-undergraduate experience in lab setting.
- Demonstrating good experience with pipettes, PCR, formulation, etc.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities- Validated ability in operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining complex laboratory equipment
- Detailed understanding of chemical interaction necessary for PCR systems, including interactions of nucleotides, enzymes, oligos, and buffers (pH, ionic concentration).
- Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques including experimental design and statistical quality control.
