**Description**

The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met: 11, 18, 31, 35, 03, 23, 58, 1N, 3P, 75.

JOB SUMMARY:

- All required documents and testing must be completed by January 19, 2025, at 5:00 pm. The 14 Week Advanced Peace Officer School starts on June 2, 2025. (CST)

Starting pay: $5,872.97 monthly or $70,475.63 yearly, based upon the combined calculation of a current 10-hour day, 50-hour work week.

Peace Officers accepted into the Advanced Peace Officer school will receive a combined Trooper-Trainee salary of $70,475.63 ($5,872.97 monthly) for the duration of the 14-week school and, upon graduation, will earn a combined Probationary Trooper annual salary of $76,231.38 ($6,352.61 monthly) during the 6-month Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.

Once the FTO Program is complete, Troopers having 4 years of full-time verified prior law enforcement service will advance to the combined Trooper II salary of $110,376.75 ($9,198.06 monthly).

Troopers with less than 4 years of verified full-time prior law enforcement service will advance to the combined Trooper I salary of $90,544.78 ($7,545.40 monthly) until they reach 4 years of combined law enforcement experience. At this time, they will advance to the Trooper II salary as listed above.

Prior law enforcement service is not applicable to promotions, transfers, determining seniority, or other matters in which years of service within DPS are relevant.

**Qualifications**
- GENERAL DUTIES:

- The Department has established a career progression for this position which will enable the employee, after successfully completing the Advanced Peace Officer School, Field Training Officer Program, and Probationary period, to advance as required by Schedule C of the State Salary Scale. Shift and hours will vary (day/evening/night) and will exceed 40 hours or more per week.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The Department will not waive the two years of experience performing full-time paid law enforcement duties within two continuous years as of April 2, 2025. Additionally, the Department will not accept service time as a reserve officer, corrections/jailer, and communications operator.
