Brief Description of Duties

The College of Arts and Sciences, Division of Arts and Humanities, and Music Program is seeking an accomplished and experienced choral director and vocal instructor with a commitment to facilitating choral programming and outreach for the university.

Essential

**Responsibilities**:

- Direct choral rehearsals and performances
- Prepare the music for all performances.
- Schedule all performances and all travel in accordance with University policies and procedures
- Be responsible for the conduct and behavior of all choir members and the enforcement of University policies relative to student's academic and judicial performance.
- Recruit choir members and provide mentorship, guidance, and support for the choral ensembles.
- Advise and recruit students to the Music Program
- Teach Applied Voice
- Teach Choral Conducting
- Participate in curriculum review and assessment.
- Collaborate with faculty and community stakeholders for program improvement.
- Work closely with other university, college, and division faculty and professionals
- Participate in program governance at the college and university level as well as contribute to one's professional organizations.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Graduate degree in a relevant field (vocal performance, vocal pedagogy, choral conducting, or related field) from an accredited college or university.
- Expertise in teaching, conducting, and developing choral ensembles.
- Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of choral repertoire including music of the African American Diaspora.
- Must be dedicated to the mission of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and be well acquainted with the music of African American composers.
- Ability to teach at all levels in the applied vocal area.
- A minimum of three successful years of college/university level experience directing choral ensembles and teaching voice.

Information to Applicant

**Collective Bargaining Unit (Union)**: This position is in the collective bargaining unit represented by National Education Association (NEA) and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.

**Employment Benefits**: Selectee will be eligible for health and life insurance, and sick leave and will be covered under the University of the District of Columbia' s retirement plan (TIAA-CREF).

**Visa Sponsorship**: At this time, the University of the District of Columbia does not provide sponsorship for visas (e.g. H-1B). This position is also ineligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT).
